Just Another Order

(early January 2012)

How can one be alone?
In here there are many
The tram holds too
And always they smile as I slip away

Are they friends? Strangers? Hostile to all?
Do they care or want to?
Should I?

And what if this were home
Candles a-glow, bright lights formed
Feet up, sofas puffed
And TV tuned to its finest

We would not be lonely
For we know we would have
Our comforts, our mind and memories
And youth to comfort us
To remind of what was
And how we are where we lie today

And yet ....
No-one knows or cares
I am a nothing
A seat, a pencil
Just another order
A vote cast, choice made
A submission, a shade of grey
I am not one today
Tomorrow may be
Nobody can know this but I
Though I feel
I need just NEED to be free
